Amra Kojon Proudly Presents:

David Upegui

David Upegui describes his musical involvement, “I began playing bugle at 7 years old in Colombia. I started playing trumpet in eighth grade (Mr. Bill Elias – CT, Mr. Ron Johnson – RI) and have been trained by Robert “Buzz” Buzzerio in Jazz and Dr. John Pellegrino in Classical. Over the past 13 years I have played Baroque music with organist Peter Lamoria (Central Falls) and in the last 7 years I have co-created the band Infusion “” and composed original music along side the other musicians in the group (Todd Andreozzi, Jose Fortunet and Kurt Rowlinson).”

“I often define moments of my life with music; therefore I have Tito Puente’s days as well as Zakir Hussain days, I have Nina Simone and Paco de Lucia afternoons, I have Mozart, Debussy, Chopin and Tchaikovsky evenings. And some days belong to Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, Mercedes Sosa, Bjork and Paul Simon. Music embraces me. I find myself lost teaching my boys to clap, drum and dance, or humming Miles Davis and thinking of holding hands and kissing. I have been blessed as the music has found me and given me appreciation of the lyrics, the tempo, the whole song and dance that I am performing along side the universe. Amra Kojon is an extension of the love I’ve found as I’ve travel this world.”
